Meet Emily, one of the founders of Perfectly Placed Dorms. As Emily’s oldest son prepared for college at Boise State University, she quickly realized just how emotional that final year of high school — and especially that last summer at home — would be. There were so many “lasts,” and each one carried weight.

Amid the emotions came the logistics. Preparing bedding, toiletries, bathroom supplies, kitchen essentials, and countless other necessities quickly became overwhelming. She couldn’t imagine managing it all from out of town — or attempting to travel with everything in tow. With tight move-in windows and stores frequently sold out at the last minute, many families found themselves scrambling to gather what they needed while trying to soak in those final, precious moments together. Emily saw a clear need:

Her son, an athlete, was assigned to a fully equipped dorm with a private bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, and living space — which required even more detailed preparation. That experience opened her eyes to the wide range of dorm living situations and the varying levels of setup required. Some students need full apartment-style packages; others simply need bedroom and shared bath essentials.

That’s why we created customized dorm packages designed to fit each student’s specific living arrangement — eliminating stress and allowing families to focus on what truly matters during this emotional milestone.

As seasoned home designers, Kacie and Emily naturally expanded into this space — continuing their passion for creating thoughtfully designed, functional environments.
